Retrospective: first practice for the Mexico City Grand Prix took place on 30 October 2026.

Charles Leclerc led with a 1:18.128 for Ferrari. Kimi Antonelli finished second, 0.659 seconds behind, while Frederik Vesti placed the other Mercedes third at 0.733 seconds.

Lewis Hamilton was fourth, only 0.005 seconds behind Vesti. Ayumu Iwasa completed the top five for Red Bull. The official classification records 29 laps for Leclerc, 30 for Antonelli and 24 for Vesti.

Vesti replaced George Russell for the session. Nikola Tsolov drove Liam Lawson's Racing Bulls, while Freddie Slater took Gabriel Bortoleto's Audi. Ferrari retained both regular drivers.

Leclerc recorded his fastest lap on soft tyres. Isack Hadjar experienced an early power-unit problem but returned to finish eleventh. A late stoppage for Jak Crawford's Aston Martin prompted a brief Virtual Safety Car.

UPDATE FORMULA interpretation: Ferrari established the opening-session benchmark, but practice programmes and substitute drivers limit direct comparisons. These times alone do not establish qualifying or race pace.
